Doja Cat Made Paris Fashion Week Her Beauty Playground

At A.W.A.K.E Mode’s spring 2023 show in Paris earlier this morning, a golden figure emerged in the front row: Rapper Doja Cat had covered herself entirely in gold body paint from head to toe (perhaps as a cheeky nod to Bond girl Margaret Nolan in the James Bond film, Goldfinger). It was a bold beauty statement from the star, though certainly not her only one during Paris Fashion Week. All week long, the star has been taking major beauty risks and creating memorable moments with her makeup choices—each one more extravagant than the next.

Doja is no stranger to committing to a beauty look. She recently shaved her head and eyebrows, and during fashion week, the sleek look has served as a blank canvas for her artful makeup. Things started simple enough: At the Vivienne Westwood show, she debuted a graphic, zig-zagged eye look done by the makeup artist Laurel Charleston (who painted with Danessa Myricks Beauty Colorfix and Vu Studio’s Taboo liner in black). At Thom Browne, she also paid homage to the fashion house’s signature red, white, and blue stripes—by applying a stripe of pigment on her chin (Charleston used MAC’s acrylic paint).

The more shows Doja attended, the wilder and more experimental her beauty choices have gotten. At the Monot show, Doja went extraterrestrial-chic with an entirely blue face; Charleston first used Ben Nye Makeup’s grease paints and setting powders, then contoured the face with MAC’s Art Library palette and Viseart’s Editorial Brights palette. At Givenchy, makeup artist Sophia Sinot also proved the power of a statement brow and lip: She created a pearled eyebrow for Doja, and two-tone striped lip color in shades of nude and black. These certainly were not looks for the wallflower—but it’s fashion week, and what better time to take whimsical risks?
