Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger predicts Erling Haaland will be playing in the Premier League next season with Manchester United, Man City, and Chelsea linked
Arsene Wenger is certain goal-scoring sensation Erling Haaland will be playing in the Premier League next season, claiming the best players go where the most money is.
Norwegian superstar Haaland has set the Champions League alight since debuting with Salzburg in 2019, becoming the quickest player to reach 20 goals in the competition’s history.
He’s since carried his machine-like performances over to the German Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund, securing his status as one of the most sought after talents the game has seen in recent years.
Dortmund managed to hold onto the 21-year-old this summer despite interest from the world’s biggest clubs, but they will have little chance of keeping him next year when a £68million release clause comes into effect.
Reports in Spain and Norway suggest that Real Madrid could be Haaland’s preferred destination next summer, while Bayern Munich are said to believe they have as good a chance as anyone.
Haaland has been linked with Man City, a club that his father, Alf-Inge, played for, while rivals Manchester United and Chelsea are also keen.
And in the eyes of former Premier League legend Arsene Wenger, the English sides have the best hope of landing the striker.
“I think that will happen [a move to England],” Wenger told German outlet Bild.
“The economic power of the Premier League is too strong.”
It was reported by Spanish daily Marca this week that Madrid believe they can add Haaland to their expected signing of Kylian Mbappe next summer.
A favourable relationship between Madrid and Dortmund as well as Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola may put the Spanish giants in pole position, but Wenger believes it will come down to cash.
“English football is dominant because it is where the most money is,” the Arsenal legend said.
“The best players always go the best way to make the most money.”
Haaland has managed a huge 63 goals in 64 games since signing for Dortmund in January 2020, putting him in the top bracket of the football’s new superstars.
Wenger, though, still believes Haaland is just behind World Cup-winner Mbappe, but has all the tools to become one of the game’s best players.
“Haaland is likely to be the next high-profile goalscorer after Mbappe, he’s a super talent,” he said.
“His ambition, his will to score goals and the ability to fight in a duel [set him apart].
“He’s there and wants to win, there is something in him that is great for a striker.”
