‘He’s a phenomenal talent’ – Shane McGuigan tips 17-year-old Moses Enrique Itauma as next great UK heavweight

With some of the fighters that Shane McGuigan has coached, it’s safe to say he knows talent when he sees it.

And the next exciting prospect that McGuigan is raving about is 17-year-old British amateur super heavyweight, Moses Enrique Itauma.

Itauma is a two-time national amateur champion and a three-time European champion

McGuigan appeared on the White & Jordan show live on talkSPORT and he was talking about some of the terrific fighters that have come through his gym.

McGuigan has trained the likes of the recently retired Luke Campbell, WBO cruiserweight champion Lawrence Okolie and WBA ‘regular’ heavyweight title holder Daniel Dubois, but Itauma has been a particular standout in the gym.

“There’s another kid, his name’s Moses Enrique Itauma, he’s 17 years of age and he’s an unbelievable,” McGuigan said.

“I’ll give him a little shoutout there, he’s a super heavyweight and he’s going to the World Championships at the moment.

“He’s a phenomenal talent, he’s there sparring Daniel Dubois going head on at 17.

“I brought him in at 15 years of age to spar Lawrence Okolie and he came straight from school, he’s just an unbelievable talent.”

While McGuigan is tipping Itauma to be the next big thing, Fury believes Adeleye will take over the heavyweight division

While McGuigan is tipping Itauma to be the next big thing, Fury believes Adeleye will take over the heavyweight division

This comes after WBC heavyweight world champion, Tyson fury, had recently tipped 26-year-old David Adeleye as the future of the heavyweight division.

“David Adeleye is the future of this division,” Fury said on BT Sport Boxing’s Chatterbox, as he was joined by Adeleye.

“I told him the other night in the changing rooms, ‘you’ve got believe in yourself Dave, because you’re going to take over the division’.”

So when you consider Adeleye, Itauma and even Dubois, it seems that even after the era of Fury, Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte has passed, the heavyweight division in Britain will be in good hands.
