Invincible Voice Actor Khary Payton Provides Update on Seasons 2 and 3

Khary Payton says the voice cast of Invincible is already working on their lines for season 3 after completing their work on the second season.

Production is moving along well on the second and third seasons of Prime Video’s hit animated series Invincible. Based on the comic book of the same name from Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead), Invincible premiered its first season on Prime Video in 2021. Its high viewership and positive response from viewers and critics alike resulted in Amazon renewing the series for an additional two seasons, guaranteeing we’ll get at least three seasons of Invincible. What has since remained unclear is when seasons 2 and 3 will arrive.

Now, an update has arrived on the progress of the upcoming two seasons, courtesy of Black Samson voice actor Khary Payton. In an interview with The Movie Dweeb on YouTube, Payton spoke about how he’s currently still working on new episodes of the show. The actor also touched on reuniting with Kirkman for the project, offering some praise for the Walking Dead creator.

“We’re recording Invincible right now, and he’s just so very down to earth, and not… there’s just nothing put upon about the guy. And every once in a while I just look at him, like, this is, he’s a genius. You know. And to talk to the guy, he just doesn’t come off that way at all.”

Invincible Season 2 May Still Take a While to Arrive

Payton then provided an update on where things are currently at with seasons 2 and 3. The good news is that all of the dialogue for season 2 has been recorded and work has begun on the third season. At the same time, Payton still suggests it will be a little while season 2 arrives, given how long animation takes to perfect. As the actor suggests, the bright side here is that the show was given a 2-season renewal, so the wait between seasons 2 and 3 should not take quite so long.

“We finished season 2. We’re on to season 3. But it’s so hard to say right now. There was a glut of animation studios just trying to get so much done and literally it was like, projects sitting there with a backpack full of material. They’re like, ‘Anytime you’re ready.’ There was literally a line for the really great studios to just get this work out. So, I honestly can’t tell you. I’m dying. I am so glad they greenlit 2 and 3 at the same time, because that means when 3 comes out, it will feel like just next season, and not like, a lifetime. But, yeah, it’s gonna take a while, I wish I could say otherwise.”

The first season of Invincible is streaming on Prime Video. Seasons 2 and 3 don’t yet have premiere dates set.
