Kim Kardashian’s Met Gala Look Was Designed By Kanye West
Kim Kardashian takes her Met Gala fashion seriously. The reality star has consistently gone the extra mile with her choices, since she first stepped on the red carpet in the now iconic floral print Givenchy maternity dress in 2013. Given that, and her most recent wet-look raindrop gown that pulled Thierry Mugler out of retirement in 2019, the bar was set high for tonight’s affair. Kardashian could have called up any designer on earth, but she selected the one close to home: ex-husband, Kanye West.
As a committed multi-tasker, West is currently promoting his album Donda and putting together a streetwear collection for the Gap. Still, he found time to collaborate with Balenciaga’s Demna Gvasalia on a special look for Kardashian. The top-secret project is one of many that West has undertaken with Gvasalia of late. Their creative partnership has led to viral moments like he and Kardashian reenacting their vows on stage at Donda’s Chicago listening party in August.
During their romantic relationship, West wasn’t shy about sharing his opinions on Kardashian’s wardrobe—an entire episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashian’s is dedicated to the wardrobe makeover he and his stylist gave her. Now that they’re friendly exes, West still gives his input. The Met Gala look he created for her reflects his love of minimalism, Gvasalia’s, and Kardashian’s innate glamour. The stark black gown with matching mask and train was unlike anything Kardashian—or anyone else—has worn to the Met before.
