Norman Reedus Teases His Walking Dead Spin-Off, Calls It a ‘Whole Different Vibe’

The Walking Dead continues to produce spinoffs as the main show nears the end of its 11-season run. We’ve already seen Fear The Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond, with Tales of the Walking Dead being the most recent spinoff released when it arrived earlier last month. Now, a new series starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan is in the works titled Isle of the Dead, following their characters, Maggie and Negan, as they travel to Manhattan, an area cut off from the mainland long ago.

That won’t be the only upcoming spinoff set in The Walking Dead universe, with Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride currently signed on for a new series that will take the show to a location completely unexplored thus far. The currently untitled show will feature the characters of Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier as they travel to France. Reedus assures fans the new location won’t be the only big shakeup for the series. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the 53-year-old actor teased the new show and offered a glimpse of what to expect.

“We knew we wanted to make a show that went in the opposite direction, just because we didn’t want to do the same thing. So that’s what we’re doing. And it’s going to be way different. The story’s way different. The characters are way different. There’s a different tone, there’s different light, there’s a different sound. It’s a whole different vibe.”

It should be interesting to see how their characters travel across the globe, and perhaps it will be explained during the final eight episodes of The Walking Dead, set to premiere on AMC next month, on Oct. 2.

Norman Reedus Says The Spinoff Has Been in the Works For Years

Although it seems like several The Walking Dead spinoffs are being revealed to audiences all at once, Reedus claims the upcoming show set in France has been in the works for years. He tells Entertainment Weekly, “These talks about the spin-off had been going on for two years. It was a good year before they announced that The Walking Dead was going to end. And over the course of time, it kind of changed directions multiple times.”

In addition, AMC President Dan McDermott revealed a few more details about the show, hinting at what’s to come. He says, “[The spinoff] follows Daryl as he wakes up and finds himself somewhere on the European continent and tries to piece together what happened. How did he get here? How’s he going to get home?” Reedus has already been on location in France, saying, “I’ve been going on location scouts here and stuff, but it’s even more than just location.” He continues, “It’s all the things we love about those characters and those shows, but It’s going to be brand new, which I’m excited about.”

Reedus ended his interview by saying, “This is going to be f*****g epic.” Clearly, the long-time The Walking Dead cast member has high hopes for his new series, and fans are hoping it will deliver. Production for the untitled spinoff has already begun, and audiences can expect to see Daryl and Carol back in action sometime in 2023.
