Prince George all grown up on 8th birthday in new photo with sweet nod to Prince Philip | Royal | News
The future king celebrates his birthday on Thursday and to mark the milestone a new picture has been shared by Prince William and Kate. George is sat on a Land Rover Defender in the image in a sweet nod to the late Prince Philip, who died in April.
The Duke of Edinburgh, George’s great-grandfather, was known for his love of Land Rovers.
George grins for the camera in the snap taken by the Duchess of Cambridge in Norfolk earlier this month, where the Cambridges have their family home Anmer Hall.
The young royal is casual in a striped polo shirt and blue shorts as he poses outdoors on the vehicle’s bonnet.
Kate is a keen amateur photographer and patron of the Royal Photographic Society.
She regularly releases her own pictures on special family occasions such as birthdays.
Last month, the Duchess joked her children sometimes ask her to put her camera down.
Speaking to a finalist of her Hold Still photography contest, Kate said about George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis: “Everyone’s like, ‘Mummy, please stop taking photographs’.”
And last year, the mother-of-three revealed she had spent much time during the first coronavirus lockdown taking pictures of her children.

A great-grandchild to the Queen, he will be the 43rd monarch since William the Conqueror obtained the crown of England if, as expected, he follows the reigns of his grandfather Prince Charles and then his father William.
Royal fans were recently delighted by George’s appearances during Euro 2020.
The royal youngster joined William and Kate at a number of football games at Wembley.
George, who is third in line to the throne, matched his father in a mini-me suit and tie.
The inclusion of Philip in George’s eighth birthday picture is a poignant tribute to the royal patriarch, who died a few months short of his 100th birthday.
At his funeral in April, the Duke’s coffin was carried in a specially adapted Land Rover Defender which he helped design.
