Tom Brady didn’t hold anything back after the Buccaneers’ latest loss, a 35-7 embarrassment at the hands of the 49ers that dropped Tampa Bay to 6-7 on the season.
Speaking to San Francisco Chronicle NFL reporter Michael Silver, Brady was surprisingly candid about his emotions following the latest development in this troubling season, in which he was seen bolting out of Levi’s Stadium without a shower.
“Some things I don’t give a f—k about, at this point,” Brady said, half-smiling, according to the report. “F—k that. I’m going home.”
Brady famously grew up in California as a 49ers fan, and had a large number of friends and family present in Santa Clara for the game Sunday. But what could have been a triumphant homecoming ended up as a blowout at the hands of 49ers third-stringer Brock Purdy, who was drafted with the final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and has drawn comparisons to Brady himself for his late draft status.
When asked about how his fans reacted to the defeat, Brady was again straightforward with his answer.
“I’m sure they left, is what they did,” Brady said. “I don’t want them out there in this s—t. It was horrible. We sucked.”
Brady completed 34 of 55 passes in the game for 253 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. On the season, Brady is 33rd among NFL quarterbacks in yards per attempt (6.2) and 19th in passer rating (88.9). The Buccaneers have struggled since Bruce Arians stepped down as the head coach in the offseason, going from second in points per game in 2021 to 28th in 2022.
Brady has had a troubling year both on and off the field. He recently finalized his divorce with supermodel Gisele Bündchen after 13 years of marriage. Tensions reportedly increased after Brady returned to the NFL for his 23rd season this year, having initially retired this offseason before changing his mind.
As the Buccaneers slog their way to another playoff berth in the weak NFC South, the frustration appears to be getting to the future Hall of Fame quarterback.
