When Niall Horan took to TikTok to share his skin-care regimen in January, he had no idea it would lead to today’s installment of Vogue’s beauty secrets just a few weeks later. “When I was younger, I didn’t really care [about skin care]—I was really a boy about it,” he explains. “But headed into my late twenties, I decided that I was going to look after this thing.” Amid a busy schedule, The Voice coach and former One Direction star now prioritizes taking care of his complexion, from a daily de-puffing massage to supercharged tonics. “We need our skin too, lads,” says Horan before launching into the extended cut version of his routine.
After lighting a candle, Horan begins with a splash of cold water, a gentle cleanse, and a slather of Make Beauty’s exfoliating mask. Next is facial steaming to his open pores and increase product absorption: “I’m a really big believer in steam,” he says. “I think it’s really good for my voice as well.” While Jaxon Lane patches plump his under-eyes, Horan glides two ice rollers across his visage. “Once they get workin’, they can just take some of that swelling out your face,” the 29-year-old says mid-massage. “Out of all the things that I use, I see the most [effectiveness from] these.” Cold steam then closes his pores ahead of a hydrating cocktail of Sarah Chapman’s serum, facial oil, and hyaluronic acid-infused face cream to lock in moisture. Finally, he enhancing his glowing complexion with a dot of Ilia’s dark circle-alleviating eye cream, SPF, and lip balm.
Onto hair, Horan doesn’t want his sweep of chestnut lengths to look too perfect. A Leonor Greyl mousse applied to damp hair is the first step to achieving his voluminous ‘do, which he blow dries into place with the Dyson Supersonic. Then, he applies a “bean-sized” dollop of STMNT’s paste and a mist of Balmain’s strong hold hairspray for some lived-in texture. “Everybody tells me that I smell good,” he muses before rounding out his routine. The secret to his signature scent? A spritz of deodorant and Le Labo Santal 33. “I had no idea that a simple TikTok would lead to this,” he says. “Thanks everyone…and also, you’re welcome. Now it’s off to work for me, and remember: look fab, feel fab.”
