David Moyes and West Ham are furious that they have face Luton on transfer deadline day – leaving them with the ludicrous possibility that one of their players will be sold while he is playing at Kenilworth Road.

West Ham are in a race against time to secure a striker before the 11pm cut-off while Pablo Fornals, Danny Ings, Maxwel Cornet and Ben Johnson could be the subjects of eleventh-hour bids on Friday evening.

Moyes wants to name the quartet in his squad, as he has done for every other match this season.

There was already surprise inside of West Ham that the Premier League’s fixture list handed them four away trips out of their opening six games, with their only two at home coming against Chelsea and Manchester City.

With Friday’s game selected for Sky Sports, West Ham are now further annoyed, and Moyes said yesterday: ‘I don’t think I will be taking a sub off and saying, “Hey get yourself stripped and showered, you’re on your way somewhere else!”

Pablo Fornals could leave during the game

The same is true of Danny Ings

The likes of Pablo Fornals and Danny Ings could both play the game despite being linked with late moves away

‘We could find we have players who maybe could be outgoings and if that is the case, it does make it a difficult day.

‘What can we do about it? I trust the people behind the scenes to do what they have to do.’ On the transfer window entering its final hours while he is in the dugout at Luton, Moyes continued: ‘We will be right in it until the last minute. But, being on deadline day, it makes it really difficult for myself and everybody else to be involved. We have a game to prepare for.

‘Sky rely a lot on deadline day. You lot live by it. It is unfair we are playing on deadline day. I think there has only ever been a handful of games played on the summer’s deadline day and we are one of them.’

West Ham technical director Tim Steidten flew to Brazil earlier this week for talks with Corinthians over their striker Yuri Alberto.

However, Mail Sport can now confirm that Steidten has made the 11-hour flight back to London empty-handed after a breakdown in talks over a fee. West Ham are still interested in PSG’s Hugo Ekitike and Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri, with Moyes keen to secure another goalscorer for this season.

The signing of a striker could trigger the release of Michail Antonio, who Mail Sport recently revealed is attracting interest from Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia. The Saudi window does not close until September 7.
