What Should We Make of Khloé Kardashian’s Unfiltered Bikini Pics?

When it comes to unattainable body standards, the Kardashians have a lot to answer for. From their heavily Photoshopped selfies and tweakment endorsement deals to their fitness shows and well-documented weight loss journeys, they’ve made selling unrealistic ideals a successful business strategy. I would doubt anyone who claimed never to have looked at an image of a Kardashian and felt some kind of insecurity about the way they look. And yet, it seems, the Kardashians themselves are not immune to the negative effects of the same pressures they help to create.

Take, for instance, the drama surrounding Khloé’s unfiltered bikini pic back in 2021. So desperate was Khloé to have this image removed from the internet that she threatened legal action. Naturally, there was a social media furor: what sort of example does it set when a woman is that alarmed by an image of herself looking anything less than perfect? What hope do normal women have? But when you take into account the endless struggles that Khloé has faced regarding her body and her image, after years of being compared to her sisters and relentless online trolling, it’s apparent that the situation is far more complex. Being rich and famous does not make you insecurity-free.
