World Cup: USMNT fans descend on the Al Bayt Stadium for England game

Throngs of chanting USMNT fans descend on the Al Bayt Stadium to cheer on their team against England in huge World Cup Group B clash – with heat on after Iran beat Wales!

Vocal USMNT fans have started to make their way to the arena of their team’s crucial Group B game with England at the Qatar World Cup.

Gregg Berhalter’s charges had their final training practice at around 10pm in Al Rayyan Thursday evening as they tried to acclimatize to the conditions they’ll face against the Three Lions at 2pm EST today.

The pressure has intensified following Iran’s 2-0 win over Wales in the group earlier in the day, although the USA can still progress to the knockout stage even if they’re defeated by England.

The mood among the USA supporters en route to the Al Bayt Stadium was buoyant as they sang, accompanied by a loud drum.

Fans, of course, donned red, white and blue while a few went all out with American-themed costumes.

The US returned to soccer’s global stage Monday as it faced Wales in Group B, taking a 1-0 lead at halftime through Timothy Weah but ultimately had to settle for a point with a 1-1 tie.

Fans turned out in force for the Group B opener earlier this week and similar scenes are set for today.

England are considered the favorites to top Group B, among the frontrunners to go all the way, and therefore expected to beat the USMNT, but there’s been plenty of shocks in the tournament already.

USA’s goalscorer from Monday’s game Timothy Weah said being underdog is nothing new to the side, while Berhalter backed his roster to win any game.

‘I believe is that on our best day we can beat anyone in the world, anyone,’ he said.

‘It is a great honor to play in the World Cup, but we don’t want to just be participants. We want to perform.

‘We think the first step is getting out of the group. And the second step is, in the knockout games, playing our best possible game and seeing how far we can go.’
